Selfish or Selfless?

The pursuit of health and wellness is not an easy decision. It requires commitment. I know that sounds like a simple enough thing, but commitment is not as easy as it sounds. But why? We commit to all sorts of things. We commit to family outings, bad movie dates, driving our friends places and of course to watching our programs religiously. So then why is it so hard to commit to doing something for ourselves?

Who Called You Chicken?

I have always said lifting a weight isn’t rocket science and I stick to that. There are few people in the world that can’t wrap their mind around a bicep curl. With that being said, I will offer up that there is a definite fear factor, mostly associated with women, lifting weights for the first time. . . . → Read More: Who Called You Chicken?

Wellness Breeds Respect

Eye catching title, no? The pursuit of health and wellness is about self discovery no doubt. It’s about finding the right things to institute into your daily routine to increase not only the length of your life but the quality of your life. Got Support?

No man is an island. Seems like a really silly cliché, but it makes a really good point. In the pursuit of health and wellness as a long term lifestyle, finding the right support system is crucial. Because the pursuit of wellness is a life long journey, there are ups, downs and often a lot of mediocre middle. A Funny Thing Happened

A while back I was asked to host a wellness presentation for a company on how to fit fitness into your work day. Basically, I stood in front of about 100 people and we openly talked about the benefits of fitness, exercise, wellness and stress reduction tools to be implemented throughout the work day. So, in the course of 2 hours, one woman in particular asked a multitude of questions about how she could get more active in the day. One suggestion I always use is for people who have the ability to take the stairs to do so. She loved that answer and told me that from that day forward she would take the stairs to the bathroom on the first floor for every break. . . . → Read More: A Funny Thing Happened

Rest, Relaxation and Retreat

Oh the lure of a vacation. For me blue skies, blue water and the sounds of nature are what I call relaxing. Time to think, time to read, time for fitness and time to eat, yes vacation is priceless. Once I began my career in health and fitness, I began to explore all the different wellness partners out there and in how many ways they can be incorporated into our lives. I learned that vacation was not a time to escape from my daily health and fitness routines but a time to escape to them. A time to really focus on some of the parts I may not have had the opportunity to explore in the past. Welcome to the idea of retreat.
